An exciting opportunity has arisen for an individual to provide senior leadership support to the Specialist Oncology Nursing team within NHS Tayside.   The post holder will deliver professional and operational priorities and manage the Specialist Oncology Nursing team. They will ensure safe, effective and person centred care of patients, supporting colleagues working across the whole organisation with visible leadership and management of services on a Pan-Tayside basis to promote safe integrated patient pathways and efficient and effective use of resources.


Accountable to the Senior/Lead Nurse, the post holder is expected to work for the clinical and business success of the Organisation and to contribute to the success of the Clinical Care Group and Operational Division. The post holder will be required to provide clinical leadership which inspires and motivates the Oncology nursing team ensuring provision of the support they need to improve patient care and resolve clinical issues.


They will promote professionalism and leadership within the Nursing teams and ensure that care is person centred and of a high quality. The post holder will be responsible for leading and implementing change, acting as a professional resource, providing advice and recommendations necessary for triumvirate business planning thus contributing to the delivery of local plans and priorities. The role provides a balance between professional and operational management as well as contributing to delivery of clinical care at an advanced practice level.


Key components of this role will include a clinical role that will:

  • Ensure safe and effective clinical practice
  • Design, implement and evaluate specialised programmes of care
  • Enhance the patients experience of care
  • Working Collaboratively to Manage and develop the performance of the Oncology team
  • Contribute to the delivery of the Organisations Objectives
  • Enable and promote patients independence
  • Ensuring interpretation of national policies for local implementation within the Oncology service and provide specialist advice to NHS Tayside Board


You must be:


Registered on Sub-part 1: RN1 or RNA or Sub-part 2: RN2 of the NMC Register.  Educated to Degree level or equivalent with evidence of post graduate education in specific field of practice relevant to post (i.e Cancer related qualification).  Possess or willing to work towards Master level education.   Applicants must have extensive post registration professional knowledge and experience relevant to this post.
