An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Mental Health Occupational Therapy Team in Dumfries and Galloway. We are looking for a Specialist Occupational Therapist with a wide variety of clinical skills, knowledge and experience within mental health to enhance our developing service. The post holder will provide in-reach to HMP Dumfries and link closely with both the prison health team and the wider community teams, with a particular emphasis on transitional work, and reduction in health inequalities
The post holder will be initially be responsible for scoping our existing and good practice nationally, look at current gaps in service and where this sits within D&G and consider where specialist Occupational therapy would best sit and development of this role. Networks of support are available through the national Occupational Therapy specialist interest groups. It is envisage that following this the post-holder will link with the prison health team to provide; as required the assessment of needs, the development, implementation and evaluation of individual planned care provided by themselves together with other members of the multidisciplinary team. In addition the post holder help to develop and support pathways for people leaving and entering the prison system, with particular emphasis on transition to community services. Close links, support and supervision will be provided from Occupational Therapy Team leader, Occupational Therapy colleagues, Specialist Drug and Alcohol services, primary care, wider health and social care partners and third sector colleagues.
Group work programmes are actively being developed within our service.
This is a development post- and as such we are looking for an experienced clinician, with excellent communication skills, strong leadership and knowledge in quality improvement and service development work The working environment will be supportive, with a focus on staff development, and providing excellence in care. The successful applicant will not require to have had experience of working in a custodial setting. Regular supervision, with access to courses and training opportunities to further develop your knowledge and skills will be made available. You would also be able to link with the national Prison Health OT network.
Band 5 Development post may be considered for the appropriate candidate
Training and development will be provided.
Additional training is provided by Scottish Prison Service in relation to maintaining safety and security.
