Public Health Scotland is a new organisation between the Scottish Government and Local Government, working in partnership, to provide leadership to improve and protect the health and wellbeing of the people of Scotland.

Public Health Scotland launched 1st April 2020 with the formal status of a National Special Health Board employing around 1100 people, and with an annual budget of around £60 million, Public Health Scotland will provide authoritative information and services to support people and communities across Scotland. It will lead the national response to unforeseen health emergencies and will contribute to national and local government policy through its provision of robust data and intelligence.

We deliver:
•    strong public health leadership across the whole public health system in Scotland
•    high quality, effective and supportive health improvement, health protection and healthcare public health functions.

We are:
•    intelligence, data and evidence led;
•    have a key role in enabling and supporting delivery at local level.

We deliver leadership roles in relation to:
•    public health research;
•    innovation to improve population health and wellbeing;
•    supporting the broad public health workforce across Scotland.

PHS is a values driven organisation and we expect all our staff to role model our values in everything they do.
The Clinical Protecting Health Directorate are seeking to appoint a Project Support Officer for the Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) Implementation Support Team (MIST). This is a unique opportunity to be part of a national team working to help reduce drug related deaths in Scotland.

You will be a member of an innovative multiagency team working directly with local partners in 26 Alcohol and Drug Partnerships to support the implementation and evaluation of an improvement approach with substance use services. The aim is to increase access, choice and quality of care for medication assisted treatment – as set out in the MAT Standards.

Salary placement will start at the bottom point of the scale unless individuals have previous NHS experience.
Taking account of current restrictions, the posts will be mainly home based, until further notice in line with
Government guidelines.  When this changes, the posts will be based in Glasgow or Edinburgh (with an ongoing potential for some home working in line with our flexible working practice) and an expectation for some potential travel between the base and other PHS and partner locations.

Due to our national response to the ongoing COVID-19 Pandemic there will be an expectation for weekend and/or out of hours working

Our benefits package includes pension scheme, comprehensive range of work life balance policies, occupational health services, learning resource centres and discounted leisure, financial and shopping benefits.
