Job Advert

***THIS VACANCY IS ONLY OPEN TO CURRENT EMPLOYEES OF NHS GOLDEN JUBILEE***

The Scottish National Radiology Reporting Service Bank (SNRRS) was established with the aim of enabling cross boundary reporting of radiology exams for the first time across Scotland, by linking radiology information systems (RIS) across the country and maximising the potential of new IT connectivity. NHS Scotland Radiologists have been recruited to NHS Golden Jubilee(GJ) as part of the SNRRS Bank to provide additional reporting capacity. The SNRRS Bank has been developed as a national virtual service, with all reporting completed from home or workstations within hospital sites, therefore all interactions are through systems, email or phone calls.

A successful 12-month pilot of the SNRRS Bank has proven that it is possible within NHS Scotland to design and run a safe and transparent national cross boundary radiology reporting service. Funding has been sourced to transition SNRRS Bank pilot into a permanent part of NHS Scotland’s radiology service.

NHS Golden Jubilee is looking to recruit a 0.4WTE SNRRS Service Manager to a secondment until March 2023. The SNRRS service manager will consolidate on the pilot work completed to date by the Scottish Radiology Transformation Programme (SRTP) and develop the future uses of the national reporting service.

As of September 2021 there are 65 Consultant Radiologists reporting for the SNRRS, 62 of which are set up to report at home. The 10 boards who are now donating to SNRRS regularly have almost 400 hours reported each week. From July 2020 to September 2021 there has been a total of 15,000 hours and 82,000 exams reported. The SNRRS operational team consists of 1 x 0.4 Service Manager, 2 x 0.4 WTE Clinical Leads, 2 x Workflow Managers, 2 x Workflow Support Officers. The Service Manager will be responsible for managing this service and progressing development of the service.

The business as usual service will require consolidation of the current clinical processes and further development of robust clinical governance protocols. With the number of reporters growing and the demand for reporting increasing, strong leadership and expertise is required to engage with reporters and stakeholders and guide the workflow managers as they manage the day to day operations. The successful candidate will join an enthusiastic team, passionate about the development of this service.

You should have experience of working at a senior management level with experience of progressing new initiatives. Knowledge of the SNRRS Bank pilot is essential and the ability manage the complexities associated with running a national service. You should be comfortable working within a small operational team from a remote location. The role requires a high level of credibility, diplomacy and influencing skills to manage and resolve queries from reporters and clinical leads/directors across Scotland. The successful development of the national reporting service will be dependent upon having an effective service manager, who is able to lead the team and is passionate about improving imaging services in NHS Scotland.

The SNRRS Manager will be seconded to NHS Golden Jubilee until March 2023. They must have the support of their health board. There is flexibility to establish how this role will be delivered. They will lead and manage the SNRRS team and collaborate with SNRRS clinical lead, in partnership with the NHS GJ senior management to expand and develop the service and implement new ways of working.
