This is a full-time permanent position.  Shift pattern: Mon-Fri 9am – 5pm

  • Responsible for managing the administrative and clerical work within Obstetrics & Gynaecology, ensuring that it is performed to a high quality and carried out effectively
  • Develop and maintain the administrative and secretarial systems and processes to effectively support the clinical service.
  • Undertake line management responsibility for all administration and clerical (A&C) staff within Obstetrics & Gynaecology.
  • Responsible for recording sickness absence, annual leave and other leave on departmental and NHSGG&C systems for all A&C staff.
  • Work closely with local management team in the achievement of service objectives including waiting times and HEAT targets.
  • The post-holder is required to be educated to SVQ/111, HND in Secretarial / Business Administration (or equivalent experience) with significant demonstrable experience in a senior administrative role, working in a complex, developing environment preferably within the NHS.
  • Highly developed organisation skills, including the ability to prioritise conflicting priorities, solve problems and work under pressure to tight timescale.
  • Experience of staff management / supervision.
  • Excellent interpersonal, leadership and negotiation skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with patients and colleagues at all levels with the ability to retain credibility at all levels.
  • Ability to form good working relationships, promote team working and work effectively within a multidisciplinary environment.
  • Ability to work proactively on own initiative, flexibly and autonomously.
  • Proficient in the use of IT systems and typing skills as evidenced by experience or formal qualification e.g. ECDL, RSA 3 / Recognised advanced typing levels.
  • Knowledge  and  understanding  of  managing  Waiting  Lists  and  NHS  HEAT  Targets (desirable).
  • Knowledge and understanding of all NHS GG&C policies, procedures and regulations
  • Knowledge of Health Service (desirable) and of working in a large complex organisation (desirable).​​​​​
