Due to an expansion of the acute medicine service an exciting opportunity has arisen for 2 new clinical pharmacist posts based within the medical admissions and cardiology team at Raigmore hospital.
We are looking for enthusiastic, motivated pharmacists who have a strong sense of team spirit and the ability to work well under pressure in busy clinical areas.
This post offers the opportunity to experience a wide range of specialities from acute medicine including medical admissions, medical short stay, medical high dependency unit, and cardiology, including the cardiology and general medicine ward and coronary care unit. As part of the clinical pharmacy team you would be involved in further developing the clinical pharmacy service within this area. The postholder’s would also provide cover for the lead pharmacist for admissions and cardiology in their absence.
Depending on level of experience, further opportunities are available and may include participating in the post MI LVSD clinic or lipid clinic with your own patient caseload. You would be actively encouraged and supported to develop the necessary knowledge and skills to cover speciality areas and clinics.
Training and education is a priority for the pharmacy department and we would encourage and support pharmacists to undertake further post-graduate education e.g. clinical diploma, MSc or independent prescribing qualifications if you have not already done so. Additionally, you will also be involved in the provision of education and training to other pharmacy staff and healthcare professionals, including the acute medicine team, and also acting as a trainer for the Pharmacist Vocational Training Programme. Opportunities will be available to work on quality improvement projects, particularly within the acute medicine team e.g. SPSP, and to participate in governance groups such as sub-groups of the Area Drug and Therapeutics Committee.
Raigmore hospital is a friendly and supportive environment to work in and the clinical pharmacy team are well embedded within the acute medicine and cardiology teams. NHS Highland plans to implement electronic prescribing this year and the post holder, in addition to the rest of the clinical pharmacy team, would be involved in supporting the ward teams with this exciting development. You will be a registered pharmacist with a Masters Degree in Pharmacy and relevant post-registration experience. You should have completed the Pharmacist Vocational Training Programme or have equivalent clinical experience. A post graduate clinical pharmacy diploma or independent prescribing qualification is desirable but you could work towards these qualifications whilst working in this role. You should have excellent communication and inter-personal skills and be able to work as part of a team. You will be required to participate in an emergency on-call rota, weekend working and public holidays.
