The SLT Lead (Glasgow City HSCP) is responsible for the strategic leadership and operational management of all grades of SLT staff within Glasgow City HSCP providing planning, development and service improvement in the context of a board wide service. Having delegated responsibility for budgetary control: recruitment: workforce planning: operational procedures and clinical governance for SLT within Glasgow City HSCP, the post holder will report to the Adult Head of Service and the SLT Professional Lead (Partnerships).

The post holder will provide operational and clinical leadership across SLT within Glasgow City HSCP ensuring service delivery and compliance with local and national guidelines, standards policies and directives in addition to carrying out expert clinical work.

Providing strategic direction and leadership within agreed SLT and health/ social care priorities such as dementia care; food fluid and nutrition, AAC and e health will be key focus of this role. The post holder will provide clinical leadership, safe and effective management of the staffing resource to ensure safe and robust staffing which minimises clinical and non- clinical risk, clinical governance activity and monitoring which includes care assurance, standards compliance, professional regulation, responding to complaints, staff governance, legislative frameworks, national and board policy/guidelines implementation and workforce issues and ensure resource efficiency.

The post holder will be accountable for SLT performance and quality care within the HSCP, ensuring service throughput, access, clinical outcomes and patient experience as well as the support, growth, development and monitoring of SLT staff.

The post holder will collate and analyse outcomes from recent service review. Working closely with Trade Unions, local managers/ services, staff and service users the post holder will then produce a report on current service and propose service improvements and developments. The post holder will lead the development and implementation of an evidence based and robust service model. The post holder will analyse and address inequity of patient care and service as identified in the completed EQIA and develop the business case for improved staffing levels.

Candidates are required to hold a 1st degree level qualification in speech and language therapy with statutory HCPC registration.

• Has undertaken post-graduate study/significant formal training with extensive clinical experience (to Master’s level or equivalent), e.g. advanced dysphagia, Intensive Interaction, ASD
• Highly specialised knowledge with:
- an identifiable specialist career pathway e.g. attendance at specialist short courses, specialist knowledge underpinned by current evidence based practice and extensive clinical experience
- Research experience and practice e.g. publications in peer-reviewed literature, conference presentations.
- Qualification or proven track record in clinical leadership/ management contribution to local or national policy development and implementation relevant to specialism.
- evidence of clinical audit/research and clinical governance activity
- experience of contributing to SLT strategic service plan
• Experience of student supervision training
• Knowledge of national and local clinical guidelines and relevant legislation e.g. Adults with Incapacity (Scotland) Act • Sound knowledge of leadership theory and practice and be able to demonstrate good leadership ability in a range of situations
• Experience with National HR Policies
• Experience of managing staff operationally
• Demonstrate working knowledge of relevant IT
• Awareness of corporate functioning and demonstrate an understanding of current strategic issues within the NHS and the wider context
. Highly developed communication and negotiation skills
