Ardgowan Hospice is a well-established charity located at 12 Nelson Street, Greenock PA15 1TS. The hospice provides specialist palliative care for people with a life-limiting, progressive illness, and support for their families, carers and significant others.


As part of our dynamic multi-disciplinary team the post holder will provide pre and post bereavement counselling and caregiver support to patients, families, and significant others. The Hospice cares for adult patients (16 years and above) within Inverclyde. Services for Children and Young People include the Butterfly Service for age-appropriate pre and post bereavement support.


You will carry a caseload of supporting adults, children and young people and support the development and co-ordination of various peer support models. You will contribute to the development of these services, sharing your ideas and previous experience. You will be flexible to meet the demands of the counselling service, working face to face and / or remotely as required.


You will influence the psychological and emotional care of children, young people, and families through providing and contributing to educational programmes across professional disciplines and by contributing to the operational development needs of the service.


You will have an accredited qualification in Counselling (minimum qualification - post graduate diploma) and / or a degree in counselling with at least 2 years post qualification experience with extensive knowledge of at least one counselling approach.


Current membership with the BACP (registered or accredited status) and membership of the PVG Disclosure Scotland Scheme (Children and adults) are required. ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Training) or similar training is desirable.


Experience of working holistically with loss, grief and bereavement is essential.


You will be able to demonstrate your experience of working with adults, children and young people facing or experiencing loss. This includes working with Adult and Children Support and Protection issues and safeguarding.


The role requires working creatively with children and young people. Experience of supporting children and young people who are pre or post bereaved either individually or in a group setting is desirable.


This role requires in depth training and multi-disciplinary team working. You will be expected to complete induction and mandatory training as well as being responsive to the needs of the service. You will comply with UK GDPR guidance when working with personal information in accordance with Ardgowan Hospice clinical governance.


You will have a commitment to quality, a track record of putting patients and families at the heart of all you do and be able to demonstrate advanced communication skills.
