These posts are being offered as part of the re-focusing of School Nursing in line with the national transformation agenda and offer applicants an excellent opportunity to join an evolving School Nursing Service in NHSFV.
There will be a requirement to undertake study at Master’s level, working towards a Post Graduate Diploma in Specialist Community Public Health Nursing (SCPHN) – School Nursing pathway and registration on Part 3 of the NMC register.
The SCPHN School Nursing programme will be delivered by the University of the West of Scotland (Paisley Campus) commencing January 2020. The aim of the programme is to enable 1st level nurses to obtain both an academic and professional qualification in School Nursing. You must fulfil criteria required by University of the West of Scotland to undertake the programme at Masters Level – see university website. In addition, competitive entry requirements necessitate the need for a written assignment.
The course is offered full time over one year with time split 50:50 between academic study and practice placement.
In the practice setting students will be supported by a Community Practice Teacher who will help them to develop a programme of learning experiences and who is responsible for supervision and assessment of competence. The learning outcomes of the modules are achieved by both university and practice based learning and are assessed by a variety of methods including written assignments, examination and professional portfolios of learning
Successful completion of the programme will lead to an offer of a Band 6 School Nurse post within NHS Forth Valley.
Applicants must be actively Registered Nurses or Midwives (with UK NMC) and have a passion for working with children and families and the public health agenda, be self-motivated practitioners and able to demonstrate an evidence based approach to practice. The diversity and on-going development of services within primary care requires clinical practitioners that are committed to enhancing their own skills through CPD and a commitment to lifelong learning. Good communication, organisational and interpersonal skills are essential.
The ability and willingness to travel to meet service delivery and training requirements is essential for this post.

Candidates selected for interview are required to submit a written assignment as part of UWS entry requirements. Details of this will be included in invites to interview. This year’s written assignment should be 500-1000 words on the following topic-
“Please identify what your priorities will be as a qualified School Nurse, within your School Nursing Team. This short assignment should be justified using relevant and current literature and should include a list of references at the end”
Interviews will be held in partnership with University of the West of Scotland and will take place on Tuesday 12th and Wednesday 13th November 2019
