About NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde
NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is the largest health organisation in the NHS in Scotland providing acute hospital, primary, community and mental health services to a population of 1.2 million in 6 local authority areas. Secondary and tertiary care services are delivered currently from three acute services sectors covering North Glasgow, South Glasgow and the Clyde sector along with three Directorates covering Women and Children’s Services, Regional Services and Diagnostics and Imaging.
The Opportunities
This is an exciting opportunity to join the team of consultants providing Stroke services within GG&C.
Working in NHSGGC’s Stroke Services offers rewarding opportunities to develop professional practice and sub-specialty interests. The demand for Stroke services across Greater Glasgow and Clyde is increasing year-on-year.
The appointed candidates will join well-established and friendly teams supported by junior medical staff, Advance Nurse Practitioners, Allied Health Professionals and support staff all committed to improving the patient pathway to promote and deliver high standards of care, outcomes, experience, safety and quality for our patients.
The QEUH is the regional neurosciences centre and will be the centre for Thrombectomy for the West of Scotland. Funded from the Scottish Government, the service will build from initial experience (starting late 2021) to deliver a GG&C wide acute service from summer 2022, and thereafter expand to the West of Scotland. Successful candidates will be able to contribute to the delivery of this developing service. Acute services at other GG&C sites will be expanded to extend current GRI stroke thrombolysis to a 24/7 service supported via telemedicine, and to provide thrombolysis and acute care in a new Hyperacute Stroke Unit (HASU) at the Royal Alexandra Hospital with telemedicine support. This is an exciting opportunity to take part in these service developments.
Applicants wishing to work less than full time or job share are also encouraged to apply. There are a range of opportunities available with the ability to tailor elements of the posts to the interests of the successful candidates. Our goal is to enhance our team with the appointment of enthusiastic colleagues who are keen to contribute to the development of our services for Stroke patients within NHS GGC.
The successful candidates will be able to demonstrate clinical experience in all aspects of the essential criteria of the role.
Job Plan
Successful candidates will be given a high degree of autonomy and time to undertake supporting professional activities including training and teaching or to pursue sub speciality interests.
Additional Non-Direct Clinical Care (DCC) (up to 2 Programmed Activities(PA's) in total - inclusive of 1 Core Supported Programmed Activity (SPA) plus 1 Additional Non DCC) can be negotiated and agreed between the successful candidate and Management depending on the time required to support professional activities and the needs of the service.
The final detail of job plans will be decided in discussion with successful candidates. There will be flexibility in order to accommodate sub-speciality interests as well as reflecting aspirations, whether you are an experienced consultant looking for a new challenge or you are coming out of training into your first consultant post. Posts also offer opportunities to pursue academic and clinical teaching interests due to the close links with the University of Glasgow.
Living in the Area
In addition to being a great place to work, the West of Scotland is a great place to live – we have the many opportunities a large city offers, along with excellent access to rural and seaside towns and villages. Multiple leisure pursuits are easily accessed whether in the ‘great outdoors’ of the nearby national parks, on the Clyde or in the city.
As a substantive consultant in Scotland, you must have valid GMC (General Medical Council) Registration with a Licence to Practice (known as ‘Full registration’) and be included on the GMC Specialist Register in an appropriate speciality. Those trained in the UK should have evidence of higher specialist training leading to a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in Geriatric Medicine or be within 6 months of confirmed entry from the date of interview.
If you are ready to explore the opportunity to take your career to the next level with a fresh start somewhere new then we would welcome your application.
Applications from UK, EEA and non-EEA candidates will be welcomed.
NHS GGC encourages applications from all sections of the community. We promote a culture of inclusion across the organisation and are proud of the diverse workforce we have.
