Our Director of Infection Prevention & Control role offers a high-profile and rewarding career opportunity, with significant responsibility for developing the strategic vision for NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde’s Infection Prevention and Control service and function. 

The Role

This is a crucial role supporting the organisation towards our aim of creating a culture where infection control is seen as everyone’s business, embedded into every day practice. We need an inspiring leader with the passion and drive to make this a reality and who can challenge professional and organisational barriers in the interest of the public, staff and patients to reduce Health Care Associated Infections (HCAIs).

As the Board’s clinical expert in Infection Prevention and Control, you will have significant responsibility to provide the strategic focus to deliver the corporate accountabilities of the Chief Executive and Executive Nurse Director (HAI Executive Lead) by ensuring there are clear and effective structures, policies and processes that achieve system wide infection control, decontamination, surveillance and cleaning services standards across a complex multisite NHS system. 

You will be supported by a fully established, Infection Prevention & Control multidisciplinary team of around 50 staff engaged in the provision of comprehensive infection prevention and control services and advice across NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde.  

As much of the post holder’s work is influenced by the National Infection Control Agenda this post requires someone with a high level of political awareness and the personal credibility to quickly gain respect and influence both internal and external stakeholders.

We are looking for an exceptional candidate.

We are looking for someone with proven experience and an impressive track record operating at an advanced clinical level in delivering improvement outcomes for Infection Prevention and Control and environmental cleanliness within and across large complex organisations.  Experience in leading organisational change and a strong and confident leadership style to engage and support teams to be able to deliver sustained improvement outcomes is essential.

The scale, profile and complexity of this opportunity should not be underestimated and therefore requires a high degree of resilience, tactical skills combined with the ability to deal with ambiguity.

Candidates must hold current registration with a  Registered Health Profession and be educated to master’s degree level (or equivalent ) with significant   professional knowledge and expertise of Infection, Prevention and Control, together with experience across a wide range of related disciplines, including clinical services and soft FM in a large complex health care organisations. Previous management experience and up to date knowledge of national and international infection control guidelines and policies are also prerequisites for this job.
