Permanent - 37.5 hours per week
Healthcare Improvement Scotland is currently implementing a series of changes within the Scottish Health Council directorate following an extensive review process that has benefited from engagement with a wide-range of stakeholders. The directorate works to ensure there are robust channels so that the perspective of the citizen is clearly heard and acted upon in the design and delivery of health and social care in Scotland. We also support Healthcare Improvement Scotland to meet its legal duties with respect to public involvement.
An opportunity has arisen for an experienced and enthusiastic individual to join our Public Involvement Team which supports Healthcare Improvement Scotland’s public involvement activities across the range of our work programmes. The Equality and Diversity Advisor has a key role in engaging effectively with internal colleagues (including Board members), and externally with people, local communities and third sector organisations across Scotland to build relationships and motivate people to be empowered and enthusiastic to promote equality and diversity consistently across our work.
The post-holder will lead on the interpretation of, and compliance with, equality and human rights legislation – including producing quality corporate reports and leading internal working groups. The post-holder will also have a key role in the development and implementation of Healthcare Improvement Scotland’s approach to tackling health inequalities. Ensuring colleagues including Board members are informed of relevant emerging priorities, or new legislative requirements in relation to equality, human rights and tackling health inequalities will also be a key responsibility.
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate relevant experience and expert knowledge of equality and human rights legislation, and the issues that impact on different protected characteristic groups. Excellent communications and well-developed negotiation skills are also essential.
