Applications are open for this innovative 12 month rotation within the Critical Care Department at University Hospital Crosshouse. There are four posts available. The position involves a 12 month placement working in the Critical Care Department with in-reach to medical and surgical high care units. Commencing 3rd August 2022, successful applicants will have the opportunity to spend their development time in the anaesthetic department if this is one of their identified development needs.
Successful candidates will have the opportunity to work in a welcoming and forward thinking department. The intention of the position is to increase doctors’ exposure to critical care patients before applications to the national anaesthetics or higher speciality recruitment processes. Opportunities will be provided to enhance portfolios of successful candidates thereby providing a competitive portfolio in future recruitment options.
This post would be suitable for those who have completed ACCS training programme or who have anaesthetic training and are looking for more exposure to critical care.
Applications will also be accepted by those who have completed foundation training and who wish to explore a critical care career path.
Doctors within this role will be expected to participate in ward rounds, MDT meetings, and will provide in-reach support to both the surgical and medical high dependency units. The opportunity to assess patients in the Emergency Department who require Critical Care input will also be available. If appointed you will provide out of hours on-call commitments to the Critical Care rota.
The successful applicants will have a dedicated clinical supervisor and will be encouraged to use keep a portfolio to document their critical care. The appointed candidates will be expected to participate in audit, education and quality improvement projects within the departments. Access to support for projects are available within the following areas of interest:
• Treatment Escalation Planning
• Recovery after Intensive Care Programme (INSPIRE)
• Paediatric Anaesthesia
• Recruitment to National Research Programmes
• Organ Donation and End of Life Care
• Simulation Training
The role of Clinical Development Fellow allows successful applicants to spend 4-8 hours per week (1 day per fortnight or 2 half days) to perform dedicated development projects whether this be in education and teaching, research, quality improvement or leadership. CDF’s will be supported by the Director of medical Education in their area on interest.
This will be supported with a study budget of £1250 per annum pro rata
The appointment will be whole time for the duration of 12 months (commencing 3 August 2022. A 50% pay supplement will be paid to recognise contribution to out of hours working and emergency duty commitments, and will be based on a salary range of £34,901 to 54,879 per annum. The posts are not recognised for training. Applicants must hold Full GMC Registration with a current Licence to Practice.
