This post requires the post holder to have a PVG Scheme membership/ record. If the post holder is not a current PVG member for the required regulatory group (i.e. child and/or adult) then an application will need to be made to Disclosure Scotland and deemed satisfactory before they can begin in post.
We are seeking a motivated physicist to support Nuclear Medicine and services across NHS Lothian and NHS Fife. Currently there is an install base of 5 gamma cameras (4 of which are SPECT-CT) and 17 standalone CT scanners across these Health Boards. Our team also provides scientific support to the renowned Edinburgh Imaging clinical research facility based at the Queens Medical Research Institute, University of Edinburgh, housing 2 PET-CT systems and PET-MRI. You will join a busy and expanding medical physics team, assisting the Heads of Nuclear Medicine Physics and Imaging Physics and other senior staff in providing imaging equipment performance testing, radiation protection, and Medical Physics Expert services to the Health Boards, as well as participating in a range of teaching, training and research. The post holder will act as a hybrid imaging physicist.
You will hold as a minimum an honours degree or equivalent qualification in a physical science or an appropriate engineering discipline ), an MSc in Medical Physics or equivalent and registration as a Clinical Scientist (Medical Physics) with the Health and Care Professions Council. You will have experience of the clinical use, specification and quality assessment of nuclear medicine and computed tomography equipment and knowledge of the associated radiation protection legislation. Trainees who are yet to achieve registration may be considered for appointment under annex 21.
You must be able to demonstrate initiative, good written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work well as part of a team. The post requires travel across Lothian and Fife and so the ability to work flexibly in a changing environment is essential.
