As a vital part of NHS Scotland, NHS National Services Scotland’s mission is to enable and support the delivery of better health and better care, working in partnership. We do this by providing a range of specialised support services that enable NHS Boards to focus their efforts on delivering health improvement and patient care.

We are seeking an enthusiastic category manager, knowledgeable and experienced in strategic procurement to take senior responsibility for a portfolio of product and service contracts and ensuring the delivery of National strategies.

As Category Manager of the Paramedical Team, you will lead and manage a current team of 3 Commodity Managers, a Procurement Officer and 3 Specialists. Each manager has an established portfolio of contracts and supplier relationships to manage, supporting the workplan of tenders (c.£30M this year), contract extensions and established commercial rebate projects. These range from physical paramedical equipment, products and services including for example

  • wheel chairs and walking aids;
  • dressings, wound care products, continence products and stoma care;
  • Other paramedical equipment, orthotics, dental supplies and services.

Reporting to the Head of Strategic Sourcing & Commercial, you will be responsible for managing the assigned portfolio of contracts that may change depending on the specific requirements of the business. A strong grounding in multiple commodity and sourcing methodologies is therefore essential. You will be expected to develop and implement portfolio strategies, adopt strategic sourcing processes and implement new technologies e.g. e-tendering and e-procurement. You will manage a team of procurement professionals and will be required to lead and motivate the team to ensure the delivery of customer-oriented best value contracts for the NHS in Scotland.

You will ideally have at least 8 years procurement experience with a minimum of 3 years at a senior level and should be able to demonstrate a high level of initiative and excellent leadership skills. Written and verbal communication skills are key, as well as relationship management experience in dealing with a wide range of knowledgeable customers, suppliers and trade organisations. You should ideally be educated to degree level and be a professionally qualified member of the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply.

The successful candidate(s) must comply with the Code of Conduct for Healthcare Support Workers.

Our benefits package includes pension scheme, comprehensive range of work life balance policies, occupational health services, learning resource centres and discounted leisure, financial and shopping benefits.
