As a vital part of NHS Scotland, NHS National Services Scotland’s (NSS) mission is to enable and support the delivery of better health and better care, working in partnership. We do this by providing a range of specialised support services that enable NHS Boards to focus their efforts on delivering health improvement and patient care.

This is an opportunity to work on the single largest Azure deployment within Scotland, hosting for both the NHS and the Scottish Government. You will be joining a dynamic team who are empowered to shape the future of Scotland’s healthcare in the cloud.

Responsibilities

  • Work with new service owners to translate their requirements into optimal Azure deployments
  • Support customers in making the best use of Azure PAAS where appropriate
  • Support the migration of existing systems from on-premises to Azure in an optimal way
  • Deploy all Azure services in a secure manner, including automated validation in the deployment process
  • Use the Azure Dev Ops environment to manage infrastructure deployment pipelines
  • Configure monitoring, alerting and dashboards using Azure-native tools like Azure Monitor and Application Insights, or OS tools such as Zabbix and Grafana
  • Actively participate in Agile ways of working
  • Respond to customers’ needs including incident management, change management via ServiceNow
  • Work with our business partners to provide customers with a high quality of service
  • Support business-as-usual activities across the estate

Education and Experience

  • Good working knowledge of Azure infrastructure components, this extends to AWS
  • Familiarity with networking tools such as Load Balancers and Network Security Groups
  • Automation experience using Terraform and git for Infrastructure As Code
  • Experience using configuration management tools such as Ansible, Puppet or Powershell DSC
  • Scripting experience in Powershell, Python, bash or equivalent
  • Beneficial to have experience with container technologies such as Docker, Azure Container Service, Kubernetes or Openshift
  • Ability to work in an environment with a mix of Windows and Linux, with administration experience in at least one area

  • Confident self-starter with the ability to learn quickly, using your own initiative to get the job done effectively
  • Able to work autonomously as part of the Cloud Operations team
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and attention to detail. Working in a transparent manner
  • Self-motivated to keep skills up to date, and share new ideas with the team
  • Ability to work well with various teams that contain all levels of technical depth
  • Make best use of one day per fortnight of personal development
    • Use our Microsoft Enterprise Skills Initiative training system and Pluralsight access
    • Web and live training courses and access to free Microsoft certification
