Supporting your new career journey

You will receive a period of preceptorship to support your transition to your new role and to becoming an accountable practitioner.  This will include support to undertake Flying Start NHS, Scotland's national development programme for all newly qualified nurses, midwives and allied health professionals,  The programme offers a carefully planned way for you to transition from pre-registered student to qualified, confident and capable health professional.  As a Band 5 Nurse or Midwife you’ll find that you will have the opportunity to work with really amazing nursing and midwifery colleagues with day-to-day support provided by your peers, Senior Charge Nurses/Midwives/Nurse Team Leads and Lead Nurses/Midwives/Professional Nurse Advisors. You will also have access to our Practice Education Service which is dedicated to supporting you in the clinical area to support your development with regards to knowledge, skills and career progression. ​​​​​​​

Whilst you may not be familiar with Glasgow and the surrounding areas as a place to live and work, the Greater Glasgow and Clyde area has many attractions. The West of Scotland combines cosmopolitan charm, lush countryside and soothing seaside. Culturally diverse, architecturally stunning and historically rich, this vibrant region is home to innovation, celebration and the largest city in Scotland – Glasgow.

You can enjoy living in great locations across Glasgow and its outskirts - all with good transport links to our Hospital sites.

The Recruitment Process and How to Apply

Our Recruitment Team, Lead Nurses and Practice Education will be holding drop in Question and Answer sessions via MS Teams, in advance of the planned interview date.  This will help you to find out further information about NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde’s Nursing and Midwifery specialties and help you prepare for your interview. 

Drop in Q&A sessions Via MS Teams 12pm-1pm will be available on the below dates.

  • Fri    8th April 2022

Applications must be received by the closing date of Monday 18th  April 2022 at 23.59pm

Referees must be an academic supervisor and a previous placement mentor.

We will be looking to start you as a Health Care Support Worker as soon as you pre-employment checks have been completed with your latest start date with us being no later than Monday 3rd October 2022. ​​

Due to social distancing interviews will take place virtually via Microsoft Teams, full guidance on how to prepare and access Microsoft teams will be provided in advance of the interview dates.
