NHS Lothian Welcomes applications for Band 5 Registered General Nurse & Theatre Practitioners in Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh (RIE), Western General Hospital (WGH), St John’s Hospital (SJH), Lauriston Building and Princess Alexandra Eye Pavilion.

  • Emergency Department – RIE

The Emergency Department at Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and is the busiest emergency department in Scotland, seeing on average 400 patients daily.


  • The Princess Alexandra Eye Pavilion (PAEP) 

PAEP provides specialist Ophthalmic services to Lothian and South East of Scotland, for both specialist in and out-patient services. No specialised qualifications required for a post within PAEP, just a willingness to learn and be part of the amazing team. Newly qualified nurses welcome to apply with the opportunity to develop extended roles very quickly.   • Outpatient Department (OPD) - RIE

OPD 6 comprises of Trauma, Elective and Specialist clinics. The department also has nurse practitioner/physiotherapy practitioner/plaster room with 2 orthopaedic practitioner and own radiology service.  

OPD 4 comprises of Vascular, Surgical, Gastroenterology, Hepaticobiliary, Nurse specialist, Minor Ops services.​​​​​​​ 


  • The Department of Sleep Medicine (DSM) - RIE

The department of sleep medicine at the RIE is the largest tertiary referral centre in Scotland. You will be participated in dedicated nurse led clinics, wiring for diagnostic sleep studies and opportunity to rotate within Respiratory medicine and home ventilation service.
