A rare and exciting opportunity has arisen for a registered nurse to join the breast prosthetics team in ARI. The breast service in NHS Grampian provides a MDT support for all patients within NHS Grampian undergoing any form of breast surgery including breast cancer or size difference through genetic conditions, which results in the loss of or change in size or shape to the breast or breasts. The service also deals with providing a Wig service for Alopecia patients.
As part of this integral nurse led team the prosthetics service empowers patients through education and emotional support whilst they are undergoing treatment. This key role provides the fitting of temporary, permanent and replacement breast prosthesis alongside the co-ordinating of the wig fitting service for any patient suffering from short-term or long-term alopecia.
The role of the breast prosthetics nurse is very rewarding, offering the chance to engage with patients on their treatment journey offering support and empathy through what is a highly emotional time.
