Trainee Level - Band 3 - £21,709- £25,982 (progression to Band 4 following minimum 2 year training)
Monday – Friday hours between 0800-1800 TBA
An opportunity has arisen for a full time Trainee Clinical Coder to join our team. The Clinical Coder is responsible for extracting data from medical records relating to diagnoses and procedures for inpatients and day cases. Coding and checking data to ensure SMR returns are completed accurately in accordance with NHSIS definitions, codes and classifications for submission to PHS to meet national deadlines.
As well as external training, an in house competence training plan is in operation. This will normally take a minimum of 2 years to demonstrate via continuous assessment that you have acquired the skills and competences needed for progression to Band 4.
You must have a clear understanding of and commitment to the extensive learning involved in this role.
You should be educated to equivalent of Standard Grade or with relevant experience. Good knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy & physiology and/or possession of the National Clinical Coder qualification would be advantageous.
You should have previous clerical/administration experience, preferably within a health records environment and knowledge of a computerised patient administration system is essential.
You must have a working knowledge of Microsoft Word and have proven IT skills for the analysis, interpretation and validation of information from clinical systems. You will possess good communication, interpersonal, organizational and problem solving skills. You should have the ability to prioritise and work under pressure to meet targets/deadlines.
