Director of Finance

Executive Grade F £95,419 - £128,254 per annum
This is a unique opportunity to become the Director of Finance for NHS Grampian at a pivotal moment, as we finalise and begin to implement our Plan for the Future which will set out our strategic direction for the period 2022-2028. As an anchor institution, we aim to become a partner in the wellbeing of our communities. Using our learning from the pandemic and through continued whole system working with a wide range of partners we want to enable a step change in population health outcomes for the people of north east Scotland.
NHS Grampian is the third largest teaching Health Board in Scotland, with strong links to local Universities. The Board provides tertiary services to the 550,000 people of Grampian and residents of neighbouring NHS Boards; Orkney and Shetland. We do this through joint working with three Health and Social Care Partnerships in Aberdeen City, Aberdeenshire and Moray. NHS Grampian employs around 17,000 staff, including 1200 Doctors in Training across North Region, with 2000 independent contracting staff and 65 WTE within the Finance Directorate
The post holder will provide strategic and professional leadership, and take organisational responsibility for the Finance function ensuring the development, commitment to, and implementation of innovative and forward thinking finance strategies which support NHS Grampian's transformational change ambitions, clinical and other strategies, and ensure effective stewardship of resources in accordance with statutory and regulatory requirements.
As an Executive Director of the Board, Trustee of the Endowment Fund and member of the Chief Executive and System Leadership Teams, the postholder will fully contribute to and participate in the strategic leadership, management and governance of NHS Grampian. Advising the Board and providing high level expertise in areas of financial planning, management and corporate governance to the Chief Executive, Executive Directors and System Leadership Team, and providing constructive challenge and support both within and out with their field of professional expertise.
To thrive in this role, you need to have the experience and political awareness necessary to provide clear and dynamic leadership to the Finance Directorate and within the wider organisation and system. You will be a qualified accountant with full membership of one of the six bodies recognised by the Consultative Committee of Accounting Bodies (CCAB and be able to demonstrate a track record of high-level achievement against challenging objectives. Additionally, you will possess well developed personal leadership, influencing and communication skills, having operated and led significant change at a senior or executive management level, and will be able to demonstrate behaviours consistent with our values of caring, listening and improving, and those of NHS Scotland.
