An opportunity has arisen for a Bioinformatician, to join Laboratory Genetics, which forms part of the West of Scotland Centre for Genomic Medicine. The laboratory provides a high quality cytogenetic and molecular diagnostics service to the West of Scotland, population 3 million, and to the whole of Scotland through the Scottish Genetics Laboratories Consortium and the Scottish Molecular Pathology Consortium. The laboratory is based in the state of the art Laboratory Medicine building at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow. You will join our team of >115 scientific and technical staff, and work as part of a team to develop and maintain bioinformatics pipelines for the analysis of our germline and somatic services (including NGS panel, clinical exome, whole exome sequencing, microarray). You will also maintain, enhance and develop reliable and efficient infrastructure for bioinformatic tools and processes. Applicants should be proficient at with scripting, programming and markup languages (e.g. Visual Basic, BASH, PERL, C++, Java, Python, JSON, XML). You should have an MSc in bioinformatics with experience of human genetics or and MSc in a human genetics based discipline with a significant bioinformatics component, or equivalent experience. The shift pattern for this post is Monday to Friday 9.00am to 5.00pm.
