Part-time opportunities have arisen for Transport Drivers to join our Transport Department within the Victoria Hospital, Kirkcaldy on a permanent basis.

POST 1:
Hours of work will be worked Monday to Friday, 6am to 11am transporting Radioactive substances from Edinburgh Hospitals to Dunfermline’s Queen Margaret and the Victoria Hospital within Kirkcaldy. This will also include collecting and delivering, Laboratories, Pharmacy, mail and patients notes between Edinburgh and Fife Hospitals. 

POST 2:
Hours of work will be worked Monday to Friday, 3.30pm to 8.30pm transporting pharmacy from the Victoria & Queen Margaret Hospitals Pharmacy Departments to other Fife Hospitals, this can also include other collection and delivery of items e.g. Laboratory specimens.

POST 3: 
Hours of work will be worked on a Saturday only, 9am to 12noon transporting the collections of Laboratories specimens from Fife Hospitals, and delivering to Victoria Hospital Laboratories.


Although the posts will predominantly be undertaking driving roles outlined above, you may also be trained and included in other driving duties within the Transport Department.

Drivers can be lone workers, driving throughout Fife, Edinburgh & Dundee on a daily basis, routes can also be repetitive. Vehicles range from cars, vans, minibuses and 3.5 tonne Luton vehicles and also electric vehicles.

You will be based within the service yard at the Victoria Hospital, Kirkcaldy site, however there may be a requirement to work within any other Hospital sites if required. 

Physical and manual handing element to post due to transporting items e.g. notes, mail, cages, clinical waste bins, and Labs & Pharmacy boxes.

You will have good communication skills, and ability to follow route mapping and timed schedules. 

Must hold a clean full UK driving licence.

Although an awareness of Transport of Radioactive Materials by Road is advantageous  for Post 1, this is not essential as full training, and one to one coaching will be supplied, including attendance at mandatory training courses for all posts.

A requirement of this post is to become a member of the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme Prior to appointment.
