We are looking to recruit a Speech and Language Therapist with advanced knowledge of the highly complex dysphagia and communication difficulties associated with a major trauma and acute and critical care caseload including tracheostomy care, ventilator weaning. instrumental dysphagia assessment and AAC assessment. Education and training staff and students, including SLT, other AHPs, nursing and medical is integral to the role. Ideally you will have extensive experience including time within an acute setting.
NHS Tayside is host to one of the four Major Trauma (MT) Centres in Scotland, based in Ninewells Hospital. The post holder will work as part of the Major Trauma Team to deliver highly specialist Speech and Language Therapy (SLT) to patients in the major trauma unit as well as across Ninewells Hospital. We have successfully recruited into a major trauma post supporting outpatient activity and we anticipate working closely together to provide outreach across Tayside for major trauma patients once they leave the acute setting. This role has shared team lead responsibility alongside another Band 8a staff member to support and deliver highly specialist SLT input to all areas within Ninewells Hospital as part of the wider SLT team.
You will work closely with the other senior SLT staff with regard to audit, service development, innovation and strategy. The Adult Acquired SLT Service is a Tayside wide service and has regular local and regional meetings. Professional development is supported and encouraged and we provide separate line management and clinical supervision to ensure strong clinical performance. Within Tayside we actively support the NMAHP development framework both locally and within the AHP Directorate, working closely with our AHP colleagues.
Ninewells Hospital is a busy teaching hospital in Dundee with over 900 beds, serving the population of Tayside and North East Fife. Dundee, known as the City of Discovery, has a fantastic riverside location featuring the new V&A museum. It has great transport links to the rest of Tayside as well as St Andrews, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen. It is within a 20 mile radius of award winning beaches, hills and countryside.
