Following the retirement of the previous post holder, an exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Controlled Drug Governance Team in NHSGGC as an Inspection Officer. This post has arisen out of the lessons learnt from investigations into Dr Harold Shipman. NHSGGC requires to balance patients need for effective medicines and to also ensure that the strict legislation and regulatory requirements are complied with to ensure patient safety.

The post holder will undertake inspection and support visits across a range of stakeholder sites located throughout NHSGGC to ensure the safe use and management of Controlled Drugs. You will be required to travel to, amongst others, hospital departments, police custody suites, medical practices and community pharmacies across the Health Board area.

The work is diverse and satisfying, a balance between activities, and meeting healthcare providers in varied environments. Similar posts exist in other Health Boards across Scotland and this provides a forum for sharing learning and experiences.

The post holder will be responsible for monitoring compliance with controlled drugs legislation and Policy, and providing feedback reports to key stakeholders. The post holder will witness destruction of Controlled Drug stock across sites in NHSGGC in accordance with statutory legislation.

The post holder will also provide advice and training to health care professionals on safe management of Controlled Drugs, and gather information in relation to investigations involving the use and safe management of Controlled Drugs.

Applicants should be educated to a minimum of degree level in a relevant subject or have relative experience sufficient to represent NHSGGC in relation to inspection and legal compliance regarding the safe management of Controlled Drugs, and be able to demonstrate a professional attitude with an ability to communicate well with individuals at all levels.

You will have excellent organisational and presentational skills. A strong communicator, you will liaise closely within multidisciplinary teams. The successful applicant will have the ability to work on their own initiative, prioritise workloads and meet deadlines.
