NHS LOTHIAN ARTS THERAPIST, COMMUNITY MENTAL HEALTH

BAND 7 – ADVANCED

0.4 WTE (2 DAYS) FIXED TERM 12 MONTHS

An exciting opportunity to join the NHS Lothian Arts Therapies Service – a team comprising of over 30 Arts Therapists working across all age groups and all localities served by NHS Lothian.

The Arts Therapies Service provides Art, Music, Drama, Dance Therapy services to children, young people, adults and older adults with complex needs across all of NHS Lothian and specific additional partners (i.e. local authority social care and third sector organizations). Arts Therapies may be offered within NHS venues or other community facilities. 

The successful applicant will be embedded within the NHS Lothian NE & NW adult Community Mental Health Teams and be a member of the wider Arts Therapies Service.

They would be expected to respond to the identified needs of those referred into the Community MH service using Arts Therapies interventions for assessment, treatment, sign posting or advice. The post holder will work with the Community Mental Health Team, the Community and Inpatient Arts Therapies Teams as well as Arts in Health colleagues to develop and evaluate pathways for those needing out-patient services. They may be required to line manage and clinically supervise a Band 6 within the team and potentially host a student placement.

The post-holder may also have opportunities to do other roles within the Arts Therapies team as they arise.

This post may be of specific interest to clinicians with experience of working within adult mental health services in the NHS or third sector and with their networks.  You will benefit from training and development opportunities, with regular supervision from within the Arts Therapies Team. You will be registered with the Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC). You will be highly motivated and creative in your approach and have the ability to adapt and modify therapy techniques for people using a range of verbal and non-verbal communication. You will have the ability to work independently with your own initiative and as a team member, linking closely with other health and social care professionals as appropriate. The post-holder will be required to travel between NHS Lothian sites.
