University Hospital Monklands is looking for a dynamic pharmacist to join our pharmacy team! This post will primarily work within our pharmacy aseptic unit to provide a safe and effective service. This will include the supply of biological medicines, centralised intravenous additive service (CIVAS), systemic anti-cancer therapy (SACT), and total parenteral nutrition (TPN). There may also be an opportunity to maintain a clinical commitment supporting the wider clinical pharmacy service.

It is an exciting time at University Hospital Monklands with the recent introduction of the Hospital Electronic Prescribing and Medicines Administration (HEPMA) and developing future plans for the replacement of the current hospital site, including new aseptic facilities. Also, there are significant changes underway within the initial education and training of pharmacy professionals and will shape future roles.

To primarily provide operational support as part of a safe and effective pharmacy aseptic services that complies with relevant local and national guidelines and legislative requirements

There may also be an opportunity to maintain a clinical commitment supporting the wider clinical pharmacy service, as agreed with Principal Pharmacist – Clinical Service and Lead Pharmacist – Aseptic Services

Additional Information Specific to the Role

  • To support the Lead Pharmacist – Aseptic Service and Highly Specialist Pharmacist – Aseptic Service in the delivery and development of the pharmacy aseptic service, including supply of biological medicines, centralised intravenous additive service (CIVAS), systemic anti-cancer therapy (SACT), and total parenteral nutrition (TPN).
  • To act as the “Authorised Pharmacist” for the pharmacy aseptic service and deputise for the Highly Specialist Pharmacist(s) – Aseptic Services, when appropriate.
  • To contribute to the maintenance and development of documentation including standard operating procedures (SOPs) and risk assessments as well as safe systems of working to ensure the highest standards of working practice and environmental conditions within the pharmacy aseptic service.
  • To maintain systems for data collection and risk management relating to the pharmacy aseptic service to improve safety, aid capacity planning, monitoring performance, responding to freedom of information (FOI) requests, etc.
  • To support the provision of clinical trials, in conjunction with the clinical trials pharmacy team, including maintaining appropriate records
  • To identify and manage risks associated with the use of medicines, in particular aseptically-prepared medicines, and to escalate appropriately when required.
