Experienced Staff Nurses required with proven post registration experience, a chemotherapy administration qualification is advantageous, but not essential.


An exciting opportunity has arisen for  band 5 registered nurses to join our multi-disciplinary ward.  The ward is a 32 bedded Acute Medical ward within the medical directorate, which includes the provision of 24 hour in-patient Haematology chemotherapy and ongoing care.   We are looking to appoint experienced , enthusiastic, highly motivated nurses with a passion for delivering excellent standards of care even under pressure. You should have excellent communication and interpersonal skills. As part of the multi-disciplinary team work closely with the specialist nurse and therapy services and also have regular contact with other specialities within the hospital and community setting.


You will have the opportunity to administer chemothberapy to our haematology patients and if not trained in chemotherapy administration, you will learn and develop specialist skills in the administration of chemotherapy and ongoing care of Haematology patients, working with Endocrine team caring for patients with both Type I & Type II Diabetes and the Neurology team providing treatment for Acute conditions.  You will be supported in your role with ongoing training which includes the completion of specific CVC competencies.   As part of the multi-disciplinary team the post holder will have the responsibility for assessment, delivery and supervision of the care needs for their patients.


You will have the opportunity to progress your own professional development and gain specialist knowledge and skills by having access to a range of informal learning opportunities and also CPD sessions.


The successful applicant must demonstrate an interest and understand the complexities of caring for patients undergoing chemotherapy.  Although not essential ideally the post holder would have Chemotherapy and/or Haematology experience. You will be expected to act as a positive role model to junior and unregistered staff, demonstrating an interest in the development of the unit and working towards maintaining and improving the standards of care.
