Do you have a passion for leading specialist education?
Due to ongoing departmental developments, the National Risk and Resilience Department (NRRD) is looking to recruit into the position of Professional Development Manager for Specialist Training on a permanent basis. The successful incumbent would primarily operate from the NRRD Headquarters at Newbridge, Edinburgh, but since the role has a national remit, nationwide travel should be expected.
The purpose of the Department is to provide a comprehensive, effective and robust organisation-wide structure for risk management, integrated emergency planning, business continuity management, infrastructure security, community resilience, strategic operations and specialised operational response. The NRRD also directly manages and trains the three full-time Specialist Operations Response Teams.
Reporting to the Head of Specialist Training & Development, you will assist in managing all aspects of Specialist training to meet performance targets and Government requirements to support national emergency preparedness, within a delegated budget, in accordance with statutory and strategic objectives.
The post holder will be a Paramedic Registered with the Health Care Professions Council, and must hold an Ordinary Degree in Paramedic, Health or related Social Science subject (or be able to provide evidence of equivalent experience); hold Masters level qualification or equivalent.
In addition, they should hold or be willing to work towards, an appropriate level of teaching qualification (Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training / equivalent or above). They should be able to demonstrate previous experience of delivering education to students studying at SCQF level 7 and above, and have senior experience in an educational field ; being able to demonstrate a proven track record of developing and delivering an educational curriculum within a healthcare setting. Previous experience in relation to managing staff and financial resources is also essential.
Extensive Knowledge and understanding of our specialist response capability and experience in delivering, planning and assuring ambulance education within Special Operations Response Teams or CBRNe responder teams is essential.
You will represent the Scottish Ambulance Service on specialist groups, together with the emergency services and Scottish Government, engaged with the development of training opportunities, multi-agency command and related training activities.
Major incidents can occur at any time and you will be required to provide a response in the role of Strategic Advisor, or similar senior leadership role. You would also be required to attend the National Command and Co-ordination Centre, NRRD, which may be required during an incident or other event with national implications. The successful applicant will be expected to participate in a formal on call rota as part of the NRRD senior leadership team.
You will also be required to deal with sensitive information for which security vetting (SC+) will be required in addition to other standard background checks.
