STP Trainee Clinical (Reconstructive) Scientist
Band 6 Salary Scale: £33,072 – 40,736 per annum (fixed term contract)

Greater Glasgow & Clyde NHS is offering a salaried post-graduate training programme in Reconstructive Science for high calibre Dental Technology graduates who are passionate about rehabilitation and its role in patient care. This post will be based within the West of Scotland Regional Maxillofacial & Plastic Surgery Technical Service at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital and Glasgow Royal Infirmary. Reconstructive science is concerned with the corrective treatment of patients with malformation, cancer or trauma – especially in the skull, jaw and face. You will design, construct and apply custom-made medical devices for patients such as:
- facial/body prostheses
- intra-oral prosthetics
- therapeutic splints
- implantable devices
- titanium skull plates
- 3D surgical planning
- Orthognathic planning
This role suites those with both scientific, artistic and manually dexterous skill set.

Successful candidates will be employed by Greater Glasgow & Clyde NHS for the duration of their three year post-graduate training programme. Trainees are also enrolled for a fully funded MSc degree in Reconstructive Science, which the successful candidate will be required to travel to Manchester Metropolitan University and Kings College London (Guy’s Hospital) to undertake the academic module blocks. Trainees will have a contract of employment for 37.5 hours/week starting on 1st September 2022. Trainees may be required to rotate through other areas which will involve secondments at other locations. For individuals with aptitude and commitment there are future opportunities to progress through a career pathway to Consultant Clinical Scientist. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals who are motivated to pursue their career within this field. Candidates require to have BSc Honours Degree (1st or 2.1) in Dental Technology or an appropriate pure or applied science. If the BSc Degree (1st or 2.1) is in a science other than Dental Technology the candidate must have a relevant Dental Technology qualification, such as a BTEC Level 3 or 4 that enables Dental Technician registration with the General Dental Council.
