The Scottish Ambulance Service is a special health board within NHS Scotland and one of three Scottish emergency services. It delivers scheduled and unscheduled ambulance services across Scotland.
We are currently recruiting an experienced and enthusiastic Air Ambulance Lead for our Emergency Service Network (ESN) Programme, initially for a 1 year period with the possibility of extension.
The delivery of the GB-wide Emergency Service Network is led by the Home Office. This will result in the replacement of the current Airwave critical communications network used by emergency service organisations throughout GB as part of their £10bn Emergency Service Mobile Communications Programme (ESMCP).
As part of the wider Home Office Programme, the Service are working with emergency service colleagues in Scotland and GB to define what is needed to successfully deliver the Scottish Ambulance Service elements of the programme, which includes the Air Ambulance provision. This will include the procurement and delivery or appropriate technology, assurance activities (testing and operational evaluation), input into scheduling and resource planning and communication with stakeholders across SAS, other emergency services and the ESMCP.
The successful candidate will report to the Head of Service, Air Ambulance and will play a key role in ensuring successfully delivery of the Air Ambulance elements of the wider programme to agreed Service standards. The postholder will have experience of leading in the delivery of complex programmes/projects from a user perspective and have a demonstrable track record of communications across the emergency services and with colleagues in England and Wales.
They will work with a wide range of stakeholders within the Service but also work closely with other emergency service colleagues on a daily basis.
They will have to establish strong working relationships with senior and frontline staff throughout the Service to ensure that all appropriate staff are fully engaged in the development and implementation of new solutions and ways of working. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are therefore essential.
The post will be based at the ScotSTAR and air ambulance operations hangar at Glasgow Airport although home working may be expected/preferable due to pandemic infection control considerations.
The role will primarily be desk-based but will require travel throughout Scotland and occasionally to other parts of Great Britain to meet the needs of the Service. As a result, there will be occasions where the post-holder will have to be flexible in terms of their start time and finish time during their 16hr working week. Applicants must have a current driving licence.
