Trainee Biomedical Scientist 1 (AfC Band 6 annex U) would  be considered

2 full time positions 37.5 hrs per week
1 part time 18.75 Hrs per week  (salary pro rata)

The Scottish national blood transfusion service (SNBTS) plays a vital role as part of NHS Scotland. NHS National Services Scotland’s mission is to enable and support the delivery of better care working in partnership. We do this by providing a range of specialized support services that enable NHS boards to focus their efforts on delivering health improvement and patient care. Suitable applicants are invited to join a hard working team in Blood Bank / Immunohaematology sections of the Transfusion Centre. 

Applications are invited from Biomedical Scientists registered with the HCPC (Health & Care Professions Council). Qualified Biomedical Scientists are preferred for this post however applicants with an Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS) accredited honours degree, who are in the process of applying for HCPC registration or who meet the criteria for undertaking a training programme using the IBMS Registration portfolio, will be considered for the post of Trainee Biomedical Scientist. Applications will also be considered from applicants expected to be awarded an HCPC accredited degree. Degree award to be confirmed by the end of June 2022.

This post offers the opportunity to gain experience in all aspects of work undertaken in the Blood Bank / Immunohaematology sections of the Transfusion Centre. The successful applicant will join a team of highly skilled and motivated Biomedical Scientists working in those sections.

During this period, you will undergo training as appropriate.  Those requiring training for HCPC registration will be supported towards achieving this.

In the Blood Bank a 24/7 shift roster is in operation and permanent post holders in that area must participate.  Agenda for Change remuneration rates for shift working apply.

The successful candidate will be required to undergo a Disclosure Scotland check. Any candidate who has worked overseas for more than 3 months will also be required to provide a criminal record check from the appropriate overseas agency
