Trainee School Nurse – Band 5

Location: Banff and Buchan

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and innovative Trainee School Nurse to join our Health Visiting & School Nursing Team in Banff and Buchan for a fixed term for 2 years to complete the Trainee School Nurse Masters. Starting September 2022 or 2023. The successful candidate will have excellent communication, be resilience and poses excellent organisational skills and be committed to integrated team working. We offer case supervision and the opportunity for continual professional development within a supportive and innovative team.

The post holder will work as part of the School Nursing Service to support the implementation of the care pathways for school aged children and young people.  Knowledge of the GIRFEC framework including the, Children & Young People (Scotland) Act 2014 is essential.

There is the expectation that the post holder will gain the knowledge and experience required to progress to the SCPHN Programme to become a School Nurse. For this reason it is essential applicants have successfully completed a degree within Nursing – evidence required in the past 5 years – or be willing to complete a module as evidence of up to date academic learning (funding available)

It is essential you bring experience and understanding of the health needs of the school aged population to ensure the provision of the service is effective, efficient, culturally sensitive and evidenced based to reduce health inequalities and promote health and wellbeing for children and young people within school and the community. The post holder(s) will work in partnership with service users, local authorities and other agencies to deliver quality evidenced based and person-centred programmes of care. You will liaise with other services and organisations as appropriate, make onward referrals if necessary and in some circumstances escalate where there are child protection concerns.  A working knowledge of SEEMiS is advantageous.

Experienced working at First level Registered Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Council and have experience of working within the community ideally with children and young people – also experience in a school setting would be advantageous.

Post: 26.5 hours/week based to cover Fraserburgh and Banff
