About the Organisation:
Public Health Scotland is a new organisation, set up to improve the lives of people in Scotland, to reduce health inequalities that persist in many of our communities. It’s an exciting time to join the organisation, with PHS at the forefront of Scotland’s efforts to tackle Coronavirus and its implications across society.
The post:
We are recruiting a Public Health Intelligence Advisor band 7 (£40,872- £47,846) to the Economy and Poverty Service in Public Health Scotland. This is a fixed term / secondment position.
This post will work closely with the SIPHER Consortium (Systems Science in Public Health and Health Economic Research), a £5m research consortium led by University of Glasgow. SIPHER develops systems science methods and tools to understand how to best align policy action across different governmental sectors with the aim of tackling health inequalities.
You will lead the work of turning SIPHER models and analytic outputs into evidence and decision tools that are useful for PHS and our partners. You will:
Act as key liaison person between academic partners and PHS
Contribute to regular project meetings with SIPHER’s academic and policy leads
Proactively identifying new opportunities for modelling and analysis contributions
Run scenarios through pre-built SIPHER models (in Excel, R, Python) and develop appropriate evidence products (e.g. ad-hoc analyses, briefings, reports, presentations)
Contribute to journal papers
Disseminate and advocate for SIPHER through relevant communities of practice
SIPHER seeks to support a shift from “health policy” to “healthy public policy”, where all policy sectors work together to improve the health & wellbeing of the population and reduce inequalities. SIPHER's work is focused on understanding the system-wide impact of policies in the policy areas of inclusive economies, housing and mental wellbeing and SIPHER scientists from six universities are deeply embedded in the policy processes of the local, regional and national policy partners, helping to both shape and respond to emerging evidence needs for policy analysis
The candidate:
You will have:
a strong analytical capacity; be familiar with simulation models; have sound knowledge of data analytics at an intermediate/advanced level.
the ability to develop informative visualisations for effective communication of SIPHER tools and results
Location and working pattern:
This posts can be based in our Edinburgh or Glasgow offices, although the team are currently home working as a result of the pandemic. A laptop, monitor, keyboard and mouse will be supplied.
Due to our national response to the ongoing COVID-19 Pandemic there will be an expectation for weekend and/or out of hours working.
