An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and innovative Speech and Language Therapist to join our Speech and Language Therapy team for Children and Young People in East Ayrshire.

The Speech and Language Therapy team for Children and Young People delivers services at universal, targeted and specialist levels and aims to support the wellbeing needs of children, and their families, at the earliest opportunity by working in collaboration with our communities and health and education partners.

As the postholder, you will develop skills to autonomously manage a wide and varied caseload which may include children with complex needs, disorders of speech, language, voice, fluency, communication, eating and drinking. 

You will assess, treat and manage your own caseload, maintain appropriate records, work collaboratively with the clients, carers and other agencies to enable and maximise self-management and provide clinical support to other students/staff on SLT issues, as well as supervising the work of assistants. 

You will form part of a dynamic team of practitioners with wide and varied expertise and skills and be supported by an experienced team lead.

This post will also includes a focus around creating communication friendly environments and you will deliver training packages, support workshops and provide coaching and mentoring to support families, educators, education support staff, voluntary and third sector, social services and the wider community to embed strategies which will maximize children’s speech, language and communication skills. This will ensure that speech, language and communication skills are seen as a fundamental element of children’s development and vital to improving outcomes.

You will be able to develop skills in Improvement Methodology in order to fully demonstrate the impact of your innovative approaches and will have the opportunity to access wider skills development including preparing academic posters, attending local and national good practice events and sharing success with peers.

You will have strong written and oral communication skills with a proven ability to communicate effectively and work constructively with a range of people.

Regular support and supervision and opportunities to enhance skills will be provided.

Car availability for work purposes and a valid UK license is essential for this post.
