Job Advert

Lead Pharmacist, West of Scotland Cancer Network (Band 8C, Royal Pharmaceutical Society approved Consultant Pharmacist Job Description)

The West of Scotland Cancer Network (WoSCAN) and its associated Managed Clinical Networks have been established to improve cancer services in the West of Scotland, ensuring all activities are interconnected and coherent. Together they strive to deliver best quality care, equitably to all patients across the region.  WoSCAN is one of three regional Cancer Networks in Scotland. WoSCAN spans four NHS Boards: Ayrshire & Arran, Forth Valley, Greater Glasgow and Clyde and Lanarkshire. The Systemic Anti-Cancer Treatment service operates on a hub and spoke model. The Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre, one of the largest Cancer Centres in the United Kingdom and Europe, operates as the hub linking to 13 local delivery units across WoSCAN.  Due to the retirement of the current post holder, WoSCAN are seeking an experienced cancer pharmacist to provide clinical and professional leadership, co-ordinating the ongoing strategic planning and future delivery of pharmaceutical care to patients with cancer, in primary and acute care. The post holder leads the regional medicines governance programme providing expert advice and leadership for the increasing complexity associated with advances in cancer treatment.  NHS Scotland is currently modernising the Scottish pharmacist post-registration career pathway with work underway to establish Consultant pharmacist posts in Scotland. In advance the Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS) has approved the establishment of a new Consultant Pharmacist Post for the WoSCAN. The RPS has a parallel credentialing process for individuals to be assessed as consultant-ready and eligible to work in approved consultant pharmacist posts. Applicants for this post, if not credentialed as consultant-ready with RPS, will be supported to achieve credentialing within two years. Subject to establishment of national policy and the successful applicant credentialing with the RPS, the post holder will be able to use the title of ‘consultant pharmacist’.

Please note that interviews are scheduled to take place for this post on Wednesday 2nd November and candidates should be available on this day.
