The role of the Digital & Data Innovation Directorate is to harness the power of innovation and data science to transform, expand and release the potential of our data and information assets in order to lead a data driven approach to improving public health outcomes nationally and locally.

We now have a vacancy for the Director for Data & Digital Innovation & Head of Profession for Statistics. The purpose of this role is to provide strong system wide leadership to develop and approach to data-driven innovation that facilitates access to data and drives whole system behavioural change. The post-holder in this role is also accountable for the professional statistical functions within Public Health Scotland and oversees the productions of official statistics within NHS National Services Scotland. 

As part of the Executive Team, you will lead, direct and manage the work and ongoing development of Public Health Scotland as we build our reputation as the expert public health body in Scotland. 

In this post you will have responsibility to lead, direct and manage the development and production of comprehensive service strategies and plans that ensure that Public Health Scotland delivers on the Scottish Governments ambition to the reform of Public Health and the development of an organisation which will transform the delivery of public health services. Along with Director colleagues, you will have responsibility for the delivery of the strategic plan of the organisation.

Additionally, as lead Professional Statistician you will undertake the role of “Head of Profession” for statistical services in PHS, NSS, NES, NHS 24 and the Scottish Ambulance Service, interpreting and implementing the provisions set out in statistical legislation. 

To fulfil the requirements of the “Head of Profession for Statistics”, you must be educated to degree level in a mathematics or statistics discipline (or hold a post-graduate qualification in statistics if the primary degree is in another subject). 

You should have considerable experience of operating at a senior level in a diverse, complex and expanding organisation which requires the operation and understanding of matrix management. Evidence of continuing professional/personal development is required. 

The post will report directly to the Chief Executive of Public Health Scotland.
