This post requires the post holder to have a PVG Scheme membership/ record. If the post holder is not a current PVG member for the required regulatory group (i.e. child and/or adult) then an application will need to be made to Disclosure Scotland and deemed satisfactory before they can begin in post. 

The purpose of this post:

  • The post holder will work as an autonomous practitioner primarily within the acute medical directorate based in the Same Day Emergency Care unit, a nurse practitioner led unit within Acute Medicine in the Western General Hospital.
  • Work within the medical team as part of a small team of advanced nurse practitioners providing a service of assessment, investigation, initial management, and ongoing management of acute medical patients
  • Working in an advanced capacity within agreed protocols, the post holder(s) is (are) responsible for ensuring the highest standard of care is delivered to patients and their families in partnership with all members of the multi disciplinary team. Provision of expert professional and clinical care, advice to patient’s carers and multi-disciplinary team.
  • Responsibility for the assessment of care needs and the delivery and maintenance of optimal care outcomes for patients presenting for medical assessment.
  • The individual is expected to motivate staff to provide high standards of care by acting as a role model.
  • Responsible for providing specialist education and training programmes for health care professionals and other professional groups.
  • Implement and undertake research activities ensuring evidence-based practice in the specialist area.
