Clinical Arthroplasty Fellow in Trauma & Orthopaedic

Applications are invited for the post of an Arthroplasty Fellow in NHS Lanarkshire. The post is suitable for applicants at the level of post FY2 (or equivalent)  / CT 1-2 or ST1-2 or above and is available from August 2022 for 12 months. The post will provide ample opportunities to build the candidates CV with a view to applying to specialty training in trauma and orthopaedics.

This is a new post with 80% clinical duties within the Trauma and Orthopaedic team in NHS Lanarkshire and 20% protected time to work with the local Enhanced Recovery Arthroplasty Service (ERAS) in UHH linked to the Scottish Arthroplasty Project. 

The fellow will join our team of orthopaedic consultants, middle grades and Advanced Nurse Practitioners (ANP’s).  The main orthopaedic ward is ANP lead and the successful candidate will operate in a supporting role.

There will be elective theatres running each working day and the post will offer experience in primary hip, knee and ankle arthroplasty.  The department also carries out revision arthroplasty procedures along with soft tissue knee and ankle surgery. 

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on local and national quality improvement projects for patients having elective joint replacement surgery with our ERAS team and be expected to complete 1 audit / QI project in your time with a view to national or international presentation.

Lanarkshire elective lower limb service are established users of imageless navigation technology for knee arthroplasty.  The post also comes with funding for a masters in Computer Assisted Orthopaedic Surgery (CAOS) based at the National Waiting Times Centre in the Golden Jubilee Hospital. 

NHS Lanarkshire is constantly reviewing its rotas to maintain New Deal compliance together with the new arrangements as set down by the Scottish Government and Scottish Medical Training (SMT). Rotas therefore, may be subject to change.
