The Isle of Arran is a beautiful island off the west coast of Scotland, offering an ever-changing coastline, dramatic mountain peaks, sheltered beaches, verdant forests, great cultural festivals and a wealth of tasty local produce.  We are looking to recruit a pharmacist to live and work on the island where you would join a fantastic General Practice team.

This is a pioneering new role and we are looking for an experienced pharmacist who is highly motivated, innovative and enthusiastic.  You will be embedded in a General Practice team, working closely with the GP’s and ANP’s you would be fully supported to develop advanced clinical skills to enable you to deliver direct clinical care to the population on Arran.

You will act as an independent prescriber for scheduled and unscheduled care in accordance with service demands and liaise with health care professionals to ensure the ongoing care of a caseload of patients. You will have direct face-to-face contact with patients across the age and acuity spectrum, in multiple care settings across Arran.

This post will also provide a specialist clinical pharmacy service to the small community hospital on the island.

You will be supported by a full time pharmacy technician to deliver key elements of the pharmacotherapy service.

You would be supported in your development to enable you to work clinically autonomously & be responsible for your clinical decisions, including where there is risk, clinical uncertainty and minimal evidence base.

Good communication, organisational and IT skills along with the ability to work with patients and other healthcare professionals will also be essential. Previous primary care experience would also be desirable but not essential.
You will have experience as a qualified pharmacist, be registered as a pharmacist with the General Pharmaceutical Council, be an independent prescriber, and hold a postgraduate qualification in clinical pharmacy (or be able to demonstrate equivalent level of knowledge).   Completion of an ACE course would also be desirable. If you do not have an ACE course, you will be fully supported to complete one in addition to an advanced level PG training programme – such as the RPS Core Advanced.
The pharmacy directorate is welcoming, progressive and focussed on the provision of high quality pharmacy services across all sectors of practice. We are committed to continuing professional development (CPD) at all levels within a supportive environment.
