Pre-registration Supernumerary Clinical Scientist Training

Genomics and Molecular Pathology

Fixed Term for 3 years, 37.5 hrs per week

Band 6 - Salary Scale:  £33,072 - £40,736 per annum

Applications are invited from candidates with a First or Upper Second Class BSc Honours Degree in Genetics or an appropriate biological subject as a minimum for entry to the NHS Scotland post-graduate training scheme for Genomics and Molecular Pathology. This training post is available in the Aberdeen Genetics Laboratory Service, based at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary (ARI). The laboratory provides a high-quality genomic testing service for NHS Grampian and the rest of Scotland through the Scottish Genomic Medicine Strategic Network. Co-located with other laboratory disciplines within the ARI site, the laboratory provides a testing service for inherited conditions, acquired disease (solid and haematological malignancies) and pharmacogenomics. The Aberdeen laboratory offers high standards in terms of facilities and expertise to support trainees. Training will follow an agreed training programme framework, which will enable the trainee to build a portfolio of evidence for assessment and subsequent registration with the Health and Care Professions Council as a Clinical Scientist.

Clinical Scientist training within Genomics and Molecular Pathology is supported by NHS Education for Scotland, which has commissioned a total of eight training posts starting in September 2022. Additional training posts are available, as part of the same scheme, within the Regional Genetic Laboratories in Dundee, Glasgow and Edinburgh. Posts within each Regional Genetics Laboratory are being advertised separately.

The shift pattern for this post is Monday-Friday 9.00am-5.00pm

Informal enquiries should be made to Christine Bell (christine.bell@nhs.scot)
