This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and dedicated Clinical Psychologist to lead and deliver on the development of a newly formed inpatient psychology service within NHS Ayrshire & Arran. The post holder will be based within the North Ayrshire Adult Mental Health Psychological Specialty, and deliver inpatient services to Pan Ayrshire Acute Mental Health wards.  

The role will present an opportunity to develop the service, with support from Head of Specialty, with a view to creating access to psychological intervention and formulation to the inpatient population. The post holder will have a significant consultation and supervision role and will be expected to work autonomously in a multidisciplinary environment, whilst also maintaining healthy working relationships. Third wave therapeutic skills, alongside evidence of previous experience of engaging staff and patients in an inpatient environment would be expected. 

The Psychological Service comprises of approx 100 staff including Clinical Psychologists, Counselling Psychologists, Clinical Nurse Specialists in CBT, Clinical Associates in Applied Psychology, Counsellors, Graduate Assistant Psychologists and Master and Doctoral Psychology Trainees. The Psychological Service delivers area-wide psychological provision through the Professional Lead for Psychological Services, two Heads of Specialty and Consultant Psychologist Leads across the Psychological Specialties. 

This post sits within North Ayrshire AMH Psychological Specialty.  The Clinical Psychologists within the Specialty are based within the North Ayrshire Community Mental Health Team located in Three Towns Resource Centre, Saltcoats. The clinical role would be based at Woodland View, Ayrshire Central Hospital, Irvine.  The Psychological Specialty is a well-established and enthusiastic team consisting of: Consultant Clinical Psychologist, Clinical Psychologists, Clinical Nurse Specialist in CBT and Clinical Associates in Applied Psychology. We have a yearly commitment to offer a clinical placement to a first year Trainee Clinical Psychologist on the Glasgow University Doctorate in Clinical Psychology Programme. Within the Psychological Specialty clinicians have training and experience at delivering and supervising others in the delivery of: Cognitive Behavioural Therapies; Interpersonal Therapy; Compassion Focussed Therapy, EMDR and Schema Therapy. 

In order to support clinicians in the delivery of their role the Psychological Services places a strong emphasis on governance and CPD and has excellent opportunities for training and access to special interest/professional groups and supervision from an experienced Clinical Psychologist. 


Hours: 37.5 per week. This is a permanent, full time post although variation to these hours would be considered.
