Applications are invited for the post of Band 5 Community Learning Disability Staff Nurse within the LD Additional Support Team (AST) based at the Red Lodge, Larbert.
This post is permanent and on a full time basis of 37.5 hours per week over five days. The post holder reports to the AST Charge Nurse.
The post holder, with support and supervision will be involved in crisis support for individuals with LD living at home and discharge transition work from the in-patient service, with the aim of preventing unnecessary hospital admission and placement breakdown.
The post holder, under the supervision of the charge nurse/team leader will provide supplementary support to three existing community learning disability teams across both partnerships for individuals who display severe and or enduring challenging behaviour, autistic spectrum disorder, mental illness and offending behaviour. A commitment to participate in further training to address any gaps in skills and competencies is essential
The post holder should be a highly motivated learning disability nurse with excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Extensive knowledge of the range of heath needs that affect people with a learning disability is required. Essential to the role are excellent clinical skills including assessment, treatment planning and interventions; risk assessment & risk management skills; and multidisciplinary & multi-agency care planning. Commitment to develop skills and competencies in trauma informed practice is essential to the post.
The post holder will be able to work in a multi-agency environment, utilising creatively the full range of services and resources available under the supervision of the charge nurse/team leader. The post holder will have a role in implementing national and local strategies and policies that impact on the lives of people with a learning disability.
IT skills and ability and willingness to travel throughout the area of service delivery is essential for this post.
It is essential you are an RNLD, currently on the NMC register, with experience of working in health services for people with a learning disability. Although post registration experience is desireable, this post is open to newly qualified LD nurses.
