We are seeking a highly motivated, experienced healthcare support worker to help support the Senior Charge Nurse and Nurse Practitioners in delivering a clinically effective service preparing patients for admission for surgery.  The post will be Monday to Friday over 3-5 days depending on the needs of the service.

Knowledge of the surgical / orthopaedic pathway is essential as well as experience of working in a pre-assessment environment.  You will work autonomously supporting the Senior Charge Nurse, working closely with Nurse Practitioners, Consultant Anaesthetists and Surgeons in managing waiting list patients attending for elective surgical and orthopaedic procedures.  You will provide a high standard of efficient individualised patient care by carrying out a comprehensive medical assessment, physical measurements, and various diagnostic tests and manage ongoing medical needs of elective patients to facilitate planned admission for surgery.

The purpose of this role is to assess, evaluate and then optimise the health of patients preoperatively, liaise and plan admission with the surgical / orthopaedic wards and theatres to commence discharge planning.  An essential part of the role is assisting the senior nursing team to develop and expand the role to meet the needs of the patient and the service.

Good decision making skills in clinical practice and the ability to work with minimal supervision are essential as well as excellent verbal and written communication skills.
You must possess evidence of effective team working and excellent interpersonal skills, and be committed to patient focused care.
