We are driving towards a modern Public Health Surveillance and Intelligence System that supports learning to improve health, care and reduce inequalities. Mobilising the power to drive improvement by making insights from data accessible, timely and sustainable, we sit on the brink of being able to integrate data across the NHS and with local authority partners.
To do this we are seeking an exceptional candidate with a strong analytical background. You will have extensive expertise in epidemiology, health data sciences, statistics, systematic reviewing, health economics and/or healthcare evaluation.
The post will work across portfolios to provide specialist leadership in designing sustainable approaches to understanding the health and care needs of our population. The successful applicant will have a breadth of Public Health knowledge that enables them to provide analytical and epidemiological leadership across a wide range of Public Health areas. You will also provide professional leadership and highly specialist advice throughout and beyond the organisation on Public Health issues.
You will work within a multi-professional environment to support and develop NHS Grampian’s policies and plans to improve and protect the health of the population and quality of healthcare, working in partnership with other agencies and communities. You will be skilled in working to engage colleagues across agencies, with policy makers and the public in complex and, at times, contested areas of Public Health.
The balance of time within the job plan is up for negotiation taking account of the interests of the successful applicant and the needs of the organisation.
The successful applicant will also be expected to contribute to the health protection function in Grampian, as a competent person under the Public Health etc. (Scotland) Act 2008 through a) participation in the NHS Grampian Out of Hours on-call duty rota for the full range of Health Protection and specialist Public Health emergencies and b) provide day time health protection cover; average of three sessions per month
Candidates must be included in the GMC Full and Specialist Register with a license to practice / GDC Specialist List (or be eligible for registration within six months of interview) OR be included in the UK Public Health Register (UKPHR) for Public Health Specialists (or be eligible for registration within six months of interview) - Candidates for Consultant in Public Health Medicine posts who trained in the UK should have evidence of higher specialist training leading to CCT or be within 6 months of confirmed entry on the GMC Specialist Register from date of interview.
Alternatively, applicants should possess a CESR / CESR (CP).
Applications from doctors with appropriate specialist training and experience who are not listed on the GMC Specialist Register can be considered for a Locum Consultant post (up to 12 months) if no substantive Consultant appointment is made. Whilst in locum employment, an application to obtain a CESR / CESR (CP) and entry onto the Specialist Register can be made.
