Job Advert

Applications are invited from a dynamic and enthusiastic individual for this new 4-session post. This post will facilitate the  timely development and delivery of the MBT programme in Renfrewshire and Inverclyde HSCP (3 sessions) and provide backfill to release the Personality Disorder Clinical Lead to contribute more effectively to delivery of the current workplan according to the 5-year Mental Health Strategy and delivery of MBT to West Dunbartonshire (1 session).

The GG&C 5-year Strategy for Adult Mental Health includes plans to develop a stepped / matched care model for people with BPD. A key component of the strategy is to establish equity of access to evidence-based programmed care of good quality for people with BPD across NHS GG&C.

The post will be based in the Psychotherapy Service in Dykebar Hospital (3 sessions). The post holder will work alongside the existing Consultant Medical Psychotherapist to provide  psychodynamic psychotherapy generic assessments, and participate in departmental team meetings, which determine entry to either psychodynamic psychotherapy or the MBT treatment pathway. The post-holder will also contribute to therapy delivery as appropriate to a fixed term contract, and to consultation on complex cases. The balance of psychodynamic psychotherapy supervision and delivery to MBT supervision and delivery provided by the postholder will be determined according to the post-holder’s level of MBT training and expertise, and in discussion with the existing Consultant. The post holder will contribute to clinical supervision of existing departmental non-medical psychotherapy staff, and new Band 6 staff appointed as part of the planned expansion of MBT provision. These staff will require further training and development to deliver an MBT programme with capacity to treat patients with a high risk profile.

The 1 session of backfill for the PD Clinical Lead will consist of patient assessment and consultation on complex cases referred to the Personality Disorder and Homelessness Team, and supervision of non-medical psychotherapy staff

Greater Glasgow and Clyde has well-established and resourced psychotherapy services which offer a comprehensive range of treatments and provide excellent opportunities for training of mental health professionals.  Each of the five existing psychotherapy services maintains close links with the general psychiatric services in their areas.

There are well-established and valued links with colleagues in all branches of psychiatry in South Clyde. The successful applicant will be expected to maintain and foster these and to participate in a range of activities such as internal teaching and management structures.

He/she will join 34 other Consultants in combined South Glasgow & South Clyde Rota on a pro rata basis; the rota is currently a 1:32, with a permanent 2nd on-call service provided by Higher Trainees.
