Job Advert

Applications are invited for the post of Clinical fellow in Breast Radiology, required from August 2022 for 12 months. The post is based in Ninewells Hospital Dundee with sessions in Perth Royal Infirmary. This post results from a combination of retirement and expansion of breast services.

NHS Tayside manages the East of Scotland Breast Screening Programme co-located and combined with symptomatic breast imaging services for Tayside. We are seeking a candidate for Breast Radiology to work within a cohesive and supportive Breast multi-disciplinary team and to provide a high quality service in both symptomatic and screening settings. The East of Scotland Breast Screening Programme serves an eligible screening population of 74000 women.

The post will afford excellent opportunities in state-of-the art breast radiology practice, alongside support to complete radiology training to consultancy through the CESR route.

Tayside Breast Unit is well-equipped with up-to-date breast imaging technologies, including digital breast tomosynthesis (DBT), contrast-enhanced spectral mammography (CESM), ultrasound shear-wave elastography (SWE) and Breast MRI. We take pride in being research active, taking part in various single and multi-centre trials and studies led by Dr Sarah Savaridas and our senior Consultant Radiographer, Patsy Whelehan.

We benefit from excellent relationships with breast surgeons, pathologists, and specialist nurses, who all contribute towards forming a strong multidisciplinary team-working approach.  We have one advanced radiographer practitioner reporting screening and symptomatic mammography, plus one trainee consultant radiographer as well as a fully trained consultant radiographer.

The post(s) offers similar educational, clinical and training experience to ST3+ post with breast as the subspecialist interest. You will  already have a background in clinical radiology and will be registered to practice by the GMC. Clinical experience will be obtained in breast radiology for symptomatic breast conditions including breast ultrasound, biopsy and mammography reporting.

Attendance at the breast MDT meetings will be an essential learning opportunity as will supporting the preparation for and presentation at the MDM.

Candidates should ideally have passed the FRCR Part 1 exam. Support will be provided to achieve Part 2. Significant prior breast radiology experience is required.

The post will be based at Ninewells Hospital Breast Screening & Imaging Unit although travel to our satellite breast services at Perth Royal Infirmary is expected.

Applicants wishing to work less than full-time are welcome to apply with a minimum commitment of 20 hours per week. Note visa restrictions may not support part time roles. This will be a basic hour’s contract post with no banding and no commitment to on call.

Tayside is centrally located within Scotland, with easy access to major cities including Edinburgh and Glasgow, and yet is also within a short distance of the Scottish highlands. Caird Hall, Perth Concert Hall and local theatres and the V&A museum are among many attractions providing an excellent cultural life. The local area is excellent for hill walking and outdoor activities including stunning beaches.

Informal enquiries are welcomed by Dr Sarah Savaridis, Consultant Breast Radiologist or Patsy Whelehan, Consultant Radiographer on Tel: 01382 632813.

Closing Date for Applications: 25th July 2022.
