As part of this partnership, the successful applicant will be employed by NHS Education for Scotland within the Nursing, Midwifery and Allied Health Professions Directorate (NMAHP).

What you'll do 

We are seeking to appoint a dynamic Senior Specialist Lead in Sonography to provide professional leadership with the provision of a high-quality, cost-effective service in the Diagnostics Directorate. Managing, supporting, and overseeing sonographer training and education within the National Ultrasound Training programme through leading and development of the programme workstream, incorporating appropriate data collection and timescales. The post holder will support the Principal Educator to deliver on a portfolio of work related to National Ultrasound Training Programme priorities within NHS Scotland Academy (NHSSA).

Key tasks will include but are not restricted to;

  • Support the Principal Educator NHS Scotland Academy (NHSSA) to deliver objectives within the National Ultrasound Training Programme.
  • Lead, co-ordinate and manage sonographer training through providing specialist advice and guidance to the sonography team and trainees within the specialism of ultrasound in line with national and local policies and guidelines.
  • Mange, support and facilitate sonography training through conducting a range of ultrasound scans as part of the multi-professional team (MDT) to meet the professional and legal standards that contribute to patient diagnosis and management.
  • Exercise a high degree of professional skill and expertise to guide and support the sonography team to develop the trainees knowledge, understanding, clinical competence and decision making within sonography practice.
  • To lead and support excellent interpersonal communication skills and relations within the Ultrasound service team, developing and maintaining these skills within Diagnostic Imaging and other directorates.
  • Provide professional leadership to the National Ultrasound Training Programme and ensure that the project plan is fully integrated with stakeholders and the public.

What you'll bring

  • Extensive professional practice and quality assurance experience to support the delivery of national and strategic targets such as waiting times, within a supportive learning environment for sonography trainees.
  • Expertise in scanning technique, to ensure that scans are performed in accordance with best practice, research-based evidence and that the resultant images and report are diagnostic.
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate sensitive and complex information in a time responsive manner
  • Extensive clinical expertise and a high degree of professional autonomy, demonstrating advanced clinical competence, decision making and knowledge base.
  • Experience of operational management of staff resources and services provided by ultrasound. Responsive to national demands and an enthusiasm for working collaboratively to support sonography training.
