NHS GRAMPIAN

Integrated Family

Portfolio Executive Lead

Executive Grade F £95,419 - £128,254 per annum*

(*or existing Medical and Dental terms and conditions plus medical leadership framework payment)

This truly unique role offers the successful candidate an opportunity to transform and develop the role of improving children, women’s and family health in a renewed integrated systems approach. This post leads for children, women and families at Chief Executive team level across the system of health and care.

The pandemic accelerated the need to re-focus how we organise care. In 2021 NHS Grampian took a step move - from a traditional model of silo acute hospital management and community leadership - to a portfolio approach. This change was taken in recognition of the requirement to take bold action to escalate the creation of an environment for people to work more-easily in a cross-system way, and in recognition that a different style of leadership is required to enable and support people to work in this way.

NHS Grampian is the third largest teaching Health Board in Scotland, with strong links to local Universities. The Board provides tertiary services to the 550,000 people of Grampian and residents of neighbouring NHS Boards; Orkney and Shetland. We do this through joint working with three Health and Social Care Partnerships in Aberdeen City, Aberdeenshire and Moray.

NHS Grampian recently launched our Plan for the Future which sets out our strategic direction for the period 2022-2028. As an anchor institution, we aim to become a partner in the wellbeing of our communities. Using our learning from the pandemic and through continued whole system working with a wide range of partners we want to enable a step change in population health outcomes for the people of north east Scotland.

The post holder will lead the planning, resourcing, performance management and operational delivery of all services within the portfolio and be the accountable officer responsible for the planning, budgetary management, performance and governance arrangements for certain NHS services which require a pan-Grampian arrangement. In carrying out these responsibilities they will be required to collaborate with fellow Portfolio leads pan-Grampian to ensure appropriate services for the people of Grampian.

Critically the post holder will also lead colleagues within the Portfolio through a period of transformational change and ensure the Staff Governance Standard is fully met.

As a member of the Chief Executive and System Leadership Teams, the post holder will also fully contribute to and participate in the strategic leadership, management and governance of NHS Grampian. This includes advising the Board on, and providing high level expertise in, areas pertaining to the Integrated Family Portfolio, as well as  providing constructive challenge and support both within and out with the Portfolio area.

To thrive in this role, you need to have the experience and political awareness necessary to provide clear and dynamic leadership to the Portfolio and within the wider organisation and system.  You will have a degree in appropriate health or social work-related function/profession or equivalent, leadership skills in delivering change and driving forward continuous improvement and best value agendas as well as a comprehensive understanding of public services in health and care environments and the context within which they operate. You will also demonstrate behaviours consistent with our values of caring, listening and improving, and those of NHS Scotland.

With the advances in virtual working, we can discuss offering a hybrid-working role which may offer flexibility in terms of location.

Informal enquiries would also be most welcome. Please contact Professor Caroline Hiscox, Chief Executive by calling 01224 558642 or emailing gram.grampianchiefexecutive@nhs.scot
