The Scottish Ambulance Services’ Specialist Services Desk is based within the West Ambulance Control Centre in Cardonald, Glasgow. We co-ordinate the use of Air Ambulance assets, Trauma Teams, and Specialist Retrieval Teams (ScotSTAR) for Scotland. We are the logistical epicentre of Specialised Critical Care within the Ambulance Service. The role and the department is featured within the channel4 show Rescue: Extreme Medics.

The Specialist Services Coordinators are the single point of contact for clinicians and multidisciplinary teams across NHS Scotland accessing specialist transport and retrieval services. The SSD are responsible for robust decision making and logistical planning to facilitate the safe and efficient use of Scottish Ambulance service Special assets including Air Ambulance, ScotSTAR retrieval, and pre-hospital trauma teams. You will provide a crucial coordination role within the Scottish Trauma network, to improve and optimise the health and wellbeing of the seriously injured both in the pre-hospital and inter hospital environment.

The post holder will work closely with our 3 Ambulance control centres (ACC) staff, operational clinicians and stakeholder agencies.

The specialist services desk operates 24 hours a day 7 days a week. As a co-ordinator you will be expected to work 12 hour shifts including weekends, bank holidays and festive periods. The available position is for a relief position, backfilling any vacancies within the rota.

The ideal candidate will be a logical thinker with experience of control rooms or telephony focussed working, patient focussed and driven by providing an exemplary service. We are a small team and the ability to work alongside others and collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team, is paramount to ensure we are able to provide the best patient care possible.
